The Hueman is the story of a boy named Joel who is colourblind and a colour dæmon who calls himself the Hueman. The little boy wishes for the ability to see colour in full clarity, and the dæmon readily grants his request in exchange for the loss of something precious to him. He agrees, but is horrified the next morning to discover that his mother has had a miscarriage, and his unborn sister Daisy is dead. He is able to see the crimson blood and it traumatises him. His mother returns to the dæmon the next morning and he explains as the child was unborn it was not technically a someone, and that Joel should have asked him for the specifics. Joel learns that day never to trust a dæmon, and teaches his children and grandchildren this too.
The daemon was one of His people.
